Adowa Dance Competition Ends

A DANCE group, Daughters of Truth, established by Brigit Opoku and Patricia Addae, were adjudged winners of a three day Adowa Dance Competition held in Kumasi last week.

The group received a cash prize of GH¢5000, 4 pieces of Kente cloths, and other traditional items including hampers from sponsors.

The crowd’s favourite, Serwaa Janet, who also performed creditably, took home a cash prize of GH¢3000 and hampers from some of the sponsors of the event.

Adowa is a traditional dance of the people of the Ashanti Region of Ghana. The dance is normally performed during social gatherings such as funerals and festivals, just to mention a few.

In Ghana, there are many Adowa dancers. Be it an individual or group, the formula and style is the same.

The vibrant energy and dynamic performance displayed by these young, ambitious and awesome ladies go a long way to promote the Ghanaian culture.

The new stars of Adowa dance are expected to perform somewhere in Europe this year at cultural festival.
