Actress Vicky Zugah reveals why movie stars bleach

Ghanaian actress, Vicky Zugah says some actors bleach for movie roles because of the perception people have about light skin.

The student of cosmetology told the host of Brunch2Lunch on Radio Univers, Abrantepa, that some actors who were previously known for their dark bold complexion have lightened their skin in order to catch the eye of producers for more movie roles.

According to her, “Everyone wants to look catchy. In this part of the world, unfortunately, or fortunately, some qualities count. If you don’t have them, you wouldn’t get the jobs."

Adding, "and that accounts for people going to the extreme of toning their skins. We have this notion that the light skin looks nicer, brighter, and more attractive on TV compared to the dark.”

She indicated that there is nothing wrong with toning the skin. “You need to tone your skin whether dark or light so that it will be smooth. Nobody wants to destroy his skin. Sometimes you want to enhance the look of your skin."

"However, because you are not lucky to get the right product, it gives you an extremely light skin. And that is when people will say you are bleaching,” she said.

Many celebrities have undergone a transformation in skin color despite assertions that prolonged bleaching could cause skin cancer.

While some have denied bleaching their skin, others have said they love it.
