Ghanaian actor and filmmaker Kwaku Manu has opened up about some of the challenges actors face in their marriages due to the nature of their work.
Speaking on UTV’s United Showbiz on March 15, 2026, Kwaku Manu explained that certain roles actors play in movies can sometimes create misunderstandings between them and their partners.
According to him, kissing scenes in movies can often become a source of tension when actors watch those films with their partners.
“Sometimes when an actor is watching his or her own movie with a partner while playing a kissing role, it brings problems at home,” he said.
He further noted that many actors get married after shooting certain films, which can also lead to misunderstandings when those movies are eventually released.
“When most of the industry players get married, the kind of role they play in movies mostly affects the marriage. It could be that when the actor got married, he wasn’t married yet, but by the time the movie would come out, the partner would be there,” he explained.
Kwaku Manu added that the demanding nature of acting can also strain relationships if partners do not fully understand the profession.

“If they don’t understand the job, there will always be misunderstandings. The job consumes time, so you could be so overwhelmed and forget you have a family to spend time with. Because of all these things, if you don’t get a partner who would understand what the job comes with, the marriage or relationship wouldn’t work,” he stated.
He also pointed out that public attention and constant monitoring of celebrities’ lives can further complicate relationships.
“Again, people will always be monitoring your life and updating your partner wherever you go. They get all the information about who we talk to,” he shared.
According to him, these pressures sometimes make industry players feel that marriage is difficult to sustain within the entertainment space.
“Industry players think marriage is not meant for us because of the everyday problems,” he said. He further explained that the constant pressure from work and personal life can sometimes become overwhelming for actors.
“You could be live on TV and your partner is aware you’re on TV, but she would still call you and ask why you’re wasting time. The pressure is just too much for us to endure,” he added.
