Accountant on trial for allegedly stealing motorbike

Sekondi, June 9, GNA - Nana Asafuah, an Accountant, on Monday appeared before a District Magistrate's Court in Sekondi for allegedly stealing a Yamaha motorbike from the Wesley Methodist Church mission house in Sekondi.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge and would re-appear before the Court on June 28 this year.

Prosecuting, Police Sergeant Andam Okyere told the Court that Reverend Jonas Samuel Aboagye, a Minister of the Church and now a student at the University of Ghana, Legon, borrowed the bike from a friend for some errands.

He said on the night of February 13, 2003, Reverend Aboagye parked the motorbike at the Mission house of the Church in Sekondi. Sergeant Okyere said Asafuah and one other person, now at large, went for the motorbike. They were however, seen by one Irene Dadzie, who raised an alarm.

Realising that they were caught, the accused took to his heels while his accomplice rode the bike away. Asafuah was later arrested, the Court heard.

Sergeant Okyere said in his statement to the Police, the accused denied the offence.
