The president of All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA), Mike Dada has said that the motive behind the conception of the scheme is to challenge and disabuse the notion that Africa is a dark continent.

According to him, the plan is to use the music, arts and culture industries to turn and change that perception about the continent.

“The motive behind AFRIMA is to use arts, tourism and culture to change that single narrative of Africa being a dark continent. Music is a tool to further take our people from the streets, poverty and culture and arts are able tools to integrate our people to know each other more” he noted

According to him, there are opportunities on the African continent for everyone in the creative arts industry provided the right legislation are put in place.

“The other continents have left us, we were on the same level with Asia at some point but they have all left us behind and we have more than it takes, we need to realizes our capacities given to us by God to create and uncreate” he said.

“AFRIMA is a platform set to allow us to realize this capacity that as creative actors we have a bigger role to play to make this continent greater and bigger than what it is at the moment, Mr. Dada added.

Mike Dada was speaking at the 5th All Africa Music Awards’ Business summit dubbed “Africa music in a global village, leveraging the opportunities” in Accra on Thursday.
