A day-old abandoned baby dies

A day-old-baby girl, who was found abandoned in a polythene bag at the laboratory department of the Koforidua Central Hospital last Monday has died.

A source close to the hospital told the Ghana News Agency at Koforidua on

Wednesday that noise from a polythene bag, in front of the laboratory attracted a night watchman. When he got to the spot, he saw a polythene bag containing the baby and he sent it to Miss Cecilia Anna Asare, who was on duty at the maternity ward.

According to Miss Asare, the baby was brought to her outfit at 12.25 am and died fifteen minutes later, adding that all efforts to trace the mother had proved futile. Meanwhile, the body was buried on Monday by the staff of the Environmental Health Department, after an autopsy.
