92-year-old veteran composes song to mark Remembrance Day

Kumasi, Nov. 11, GNA - Private Stephen Boakye, a 92 year-old veteran, has composed an inspiring song for veterans and the military as a whole to mark World Remembrance Day. The song contains lyrics which talks about the soldier who goes to war and if he does not return, believes he would definitely meet his colleagues in eternity.

Private Boakye sang the song on Tuesday in Kumasi before reading the Binyon verse to commemorate the Day.

The Remembrance Day, which falls on November 11 is observed every year at 1100 hours to remember the soldiers and civilians who lost their lives in the first and second world wars and subsequent wars. It was introduced by King George IV from England on November 7, 1919 and is now celebrated by the Commonwealth Nations, Canada and America. 140 men and seven officers made up of all the security agencies paraded under the command of Captain Bernard Nyamekye in Kumasi to make the day. In attendance were Brigadier General J.N. Adinkrah, General Officer Commander in the Northern sector, DCOP Kweku Ayesu Opare Addo, Ashanti Regional Police Commander, Mr Emmanuel Asamoah Owusu-Ansah, Regional Minister, Madam Patricia Appiagyei, Kumasi Mayor, Nana Baffour Asare Owusu Amankwatia (V) Bantemahene among other dignitaries. Wreaths were laid on behalf of the Government of Ghana, the chiefs and on behalf of the veterans soldiers by the Regional Minister, Nana Bantemahene and Ex-Sergeant Samuel Ofori respectively for those who through their selfless dedications laid down their lives for Ghana and the World.
