2 Suspected Robbers Remanded

TWO DRIVERS at Nkawkaw, Yaw Akwah and Kwaku Agyekum, who have been accused of robbing two travellers, Usmanu Sule and Iddrisu Karim, at Nkawkaw, have been remanded in prison custody by the Nkawkaw Community Tribunal chaired by Mr. William Boampong.

Chief Inspector Samuel Asare, presenting the facts of the case stated that Sule and Karim, who are from Tatale in the Northern Region travelled to Koforidua to visit a relative and were returning from Koforidua to the north when they decided to visit another relative at Nkawkaw Zongo.

He said after seeing the relative at Nkawkaw Zongo, they decided to continue their journey around 10.30 pm.

On their way to the main Nkawkaw lorry park to look for a vehicle, the two accused persons and three others who are on the run, namely Adamu, Mustapha and Kogo alighted from a taxi cab, parked on one of the Nkawkaw Zongo street, and allegedly attacked the two and ordered them to bring out all the money on them.

When they refused, the alleged robbers subjected them to severe beatings and removed ?100,000 each from the victims and sped off.

He said the victims managed to take the registration number of the taxi cab and reported the matter to the police. Police investigations led to the arrest of the accused persons at Mpraeso.

During interrogation, the accused persons mentioned the three others as accomplices and stated that the three actually attacked the victims.

Their pleas were not taken and the police are still looking for the three who are on the run.
