Put pressure on political parties to end vigilantism - Suhuyini

The Member of Parliament (MP) for the Tamale North constituency, Hon. Alhassan Suhuyini, has described as a pretense, decision by President Akufo Addo to provide legislation that would criminalise party’s vigilantism.

He also described the proposed meeting between the NDC and NPP over the vigilante issue as another pretense, saying that, it would not solve the problem.

According to the MP, there are enough laws in the country that deals with such illegal groups and their activities and no legislation is needed to disband them.

Mr Suhuyini said this at a public seminar in Accra organized by the Cross-Fire Ghana at the conference hall of the African University college of Communications, on the theme “Political vigilantism and democratic governance in Ghana’s fourth republic”.

He urged members of the public to put pressure on the leadership of both NDC and NPP to disband their groups or pressurized the Police and the CID to apply the laws anytime anybody engaged in those crimes.

He also entreated the youth to be cultivate the habit of researching into issues of national importance to enable them challenge the system when things are not going as promised by the politician.

The Convener of Crossfire Ghana, Nana Osei Tutu urged the various political leaders to show more commitment in the disbandment of vigilantism.

He disclosed that, the organization would continue to engage students at the various level to help fight vigilantism before the 2020 general elections.
