The dream of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), to reclaim the Lawra parliamentary seat has been dealt a devastating blow after the chief of area predicted the New Patriotic Party (NPP) will hold it for good.

Paramount Chief of the Lawra Traditional Area, Naa Puowele Karbo III during a courtesy call on him by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akuf0-Addo, said the Lawra seat currently being held by his party is for good.

Naa Puowele Karbo III is the biological father of outspoken Deputy Minister for Roads and Highways and Member of Parliament for Lawra, Anthony Abayifa Karbo.

His comments however appear to have angered members of the NDC who wondered why a traditional ruler will dabble in politics.

But in defense of his father, the Deputy Minister on Accra-based Joy Fm said: “So the chief of Lawra was speaking from a background and that is where he made the comment about reclaiming the seat for the area”

He gave historical antecedents of how the area which has UP roots got to the present day although he believes his father went overboard, Mr Karbo said the Chief’s comments were made in the proper context.

President Nana Ado Dankwa Akufo-Addo has howoever promised the determination of his government to keep the Lawra seat for government assuring the chief they will work deservedly for it.

“We wish to assure you that we are determined to keep this seat forever to where it rightfully belongs,” he said.
