A leading member of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Alhaji Huudu Yahaya has stated that social democracy is the best system of government to help Africa’s development agenda.
He said it would be appropriate to adopt social democratic system which guarantees equality of employment, equality of work and salary for accelerated development.
He observed that after the return of multiparty democracy, Ghana has always made progress anytime the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is in power because of the party’s social policies.
Alhaji Huudu Yahaya was speaking at the launch of a book on social democracy by Dr. William Ahadzie in Accra.
“Search for most appropriate system of government is central to the needs of African politicians to progressively develop their countries based on their peculiar historical experiences and their social structure. What we need is nothing but social Democracy and that is what most countries are practicing because it ensures that security is provided by the state for every citizen, the right of the vulnerable is protected, equal job equal pay, and more development,” he stated.
Author of the book, Dr. William Ahadzie, who is the Director of Research Department of NDC, said conservative capitalist system or property-owning democracy has become introverted hence the need to focus on social democracy to promote equality, social justice and protect the poor in order to eliminate the negative effects of disparity, corruption among others.
He said Ghana and Africa as a whole need social democratic system to develop.
Mr. Fritz Kopsieker, Resident Director of Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (FES) Ghana, organizers of the book launch, insisted Social Democrats naturally support government’s effort in the governance process for the benefit of the lower class in order to establish a more equitable society.
The 74-page Green and White book is titled “Basics on Social Democracy Volume 2: the African Perspective.”
