Ghana to host about 500 youth leaders across Africa on AU Day

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration in collaboration with Model African Union Secretariat (MAUS) would host about 500 youth leaders across Africa as part of the 49th African Union Day (AU) celebration in Accra on May 25.

This was contained in a statement signed by Mr. John Armah, Chairman of MAUS, and copied to the Ghana News Agency in Accra, on Monday.

The statement said the summit on the theme “Boosting Intra-Africa Trade Through Entrepreneurship” would involve delegates between the ages of 15 - 35 years, expected to play roles as Head of States which would authentically simulate an African Union Heads of State Summit.

Delegates at this summit will be expected to play roles simulating the workings of an African Union Summit and provide a practical outcome document to be implemented as was done last year.”

The statement said the summit would brainstorm and help create awareness on how the youth could help boost intra-Africa trade through entrepreneurship, offer a networking opportunity for young people and give the platform to youth leaders to learn about diplomacy and researching, as well as the role of the AU.

It said the delegates would be required to debate among themselves on the theme as they represent Member States of the AU which would be allocated upon acceptance to the summit.

Other activities include a tour to the AU Liberation Circle, Kwame Nkrumah Museum, and the Independence Square. **
