Upper West Akim incumbent MP wins primaries

Asuotwene (E/R), Jan. 22, GNA – Mr Joseph Amankwanor, the incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) for Upper West Akim Constituency, has won the National Democratic Congress (NDC) primaries held on Saturday.

He polled 201 votes as against 36 by his challenger, Mr Derek Ohene Assifo Bekoe, the constituency youth leader of the NDC.

The election was conducted by the Mr Charles Damoa, the West Akim Municipal Electoral Officer.

Mr Amankwanor, the winner expressed appreciation to the delegates for reposing their confidence in him and called on them to come together to enable the party win the 2012 in election.

Mr Samuel Sallas Mensah, former MP for the constituency who chaired the function, congratulated the incumbent MP and the aspirant for the peaceful conduct of the elections and urged them to work together to campaign for the 2012 election.
