The Deputy Communications Director of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Julius Kwame Anthony, has come under heavy criticism on social media for allegedly describing former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as a drug addict.
The controversy follows comments Anthony made during a panel discussion on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana.
An excerpt from the programme, which has been circulating on social media, captures the NDC communicator alleging that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) allowed a drug addict to run on its presidential ticket, eventually becoming President of Ghana.
“The person who became president on the ticket of your party was a drug addict dealing in the same illicit drug,” Anthony stated.
His remarks immediately drew a strong reaction from fellow panellist Kwesi Botchway, the NPP’s Deputy Director of Communications, who questioned why the allegation was allowed to go unchallenged on the television programme.
Expressing his displeasure, Botchway described the comments as inappropriate for a platform such as Good Morning Ghana.

“So you allow that to go? Did you hear what he said, that the former president is a drug addict? You allow that to go on an august platform like Good Morning Ghana?”
Meanwhile, Anthony’s remarks have sparked widespread reactions on social media, with several users criticising both the NDC communicator and the programme's host for allowing the allegation to go unchallenged.
One social media user commented, “A typical Ghanaian attitude: they know apologies exist, so they do whatever they want and simply apologise afterwards.”
Another user called out Metro TV, writing, “@metrotvgh, you guys allowed this on national television and because your host has sold his sense of reasoning to a political party, he couldn’t call the stupid boy to order.”
“This fool called Akufo Addo a drug addict on TV and the host allowed it to pass?”
“Julius called Akufo-Addo a drug addict on the Good Morning Ghana show? Ei, Ministry Spokesperson!”
“NDC Deputy Communications Officer JULIUS KWAME ANTHONY has drawn widespread criticism after alleging on live television that former President NANA AKUFO-ADDO is a DRUG ADDICT, with many describing the remarks as deeply inappropriate and damaging to democratic discourse.”
“So Anthony actually called the former president a ‘drug addict’ and the host couldn’t make him withdraw that statement? This is ridiculous!”

So this arrogant guy Julius Kwame Anthony referred to Former President Akuffo Addo as a drug addict; Lawyer Kwesi Botchway Jnr drew Moro’s attention to it and all he did was pretend he didn’t hear.

What kind of Journalism are these guys practicing these days🙄🙄🙄 https://t.co/vZ363k42LZ
So this guy decided to go on tv to accused former president nana Addo dankwah as a drug addict. Such a stupid boy.

I don’t blame him, local media now a days is turning into something else, there’s no integrity nor dignity when it comes to the media, the host himself was unbothered when that boy made such silly comment.
The media has fallen so low….

@fatheranthoni you called a Akuffo Addo ( former president) a drug addict .it's only in NDC that emotional &low-minded guys like you can get the chance to communicate on National TV. You have the power ,so continue talking anyhow .

Julius Anthony’s description of a former President as a “drug addict” on national television was stupidly reckless, disrespectful, and completely unacceptable.
— KAIZEN (@jswanzy13) November 2, 2026
The show’s host also failed in his duty by allowing such a baseless attack to go unchallenged. And the station’s owners must take responsibility—national television must never become a platform for character assassination.
@metrotvgh, your apology will be meaningless unless it follows the termination of the appointment of the host and the production team.
@NPP_GH, Sue this stupid boy to substantiate his baseless and disrespectful comment.
This was not criticism—it was cheap, cowardly character assassination. If Anthony has proof, he should present it immediately.
@GhPoliceService, call this disrespectful boy and demand evidence.
This must never be normalised. Ghana will not accept a media culture where lies, vulgarity, and disrespect are passed off as bold politics.
Who raised this animal in the first place?
So this arrogant boy went on live TV and called the former President a drug addict? Wow.
— Mr Irish (@MrIrish3) November 2, 2026
You give young people opportunities to excel, only for this useless boy to go and do this. He’s basically disgraced every young person hoping for the same chance to work for the party. That’s really low.
One thing I’ve always believed when it comes to communication is that you need emotional intelligence, no matter the situation you’re in.
Sometimes you’ll have your day. Other times you might flop. Either way, just try to speak with substance.
The moment you lose focus, you start going off-topic and throwing filthy words at people.
Same person aside disrespecting the former president, you were caught lying on same show. This can only happen in the NDC.. they’re shameless, unprincipled and bunch of dishonest people.
This boy called Akufo-Addo a drug addict on Metro TV Good Morning Ghana and all the hosts could do was smile like id!ot. What? https://t.co/ByLBFj3wnI
