NPP is desperately using Ablakwa to revive its political fortunes - Sinare

Ghana’s Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Alhaji Said Sinare, has launched a scathing attack on the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), describing it as a “paperweight opposition” desperately seeking political relevance through its sustained attacks on Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa.

In a strongly worded statement published on his Facebook page, Ambassador Sinare argued that the NPP, having lost political power, had failed to reinvent itself as a formidable opposition capable of presenting a compelling alternative vision for Ghana.

According to him, the party’s persistent fixation on Ablakwa exposes what he described as a staggering deficit of ideas, strategic direction and credible political leadership.

“The NPP has become a paperweight opposition, politically stagnant, intellectually bankrupt, and desperately searching for relevance,” Ambassador Sinare stated.

He further accused the opposition party of attempting to use the Foreign Affairs Minister as a political lifeline to resuscitate its declining political fortunes, arguing that its sustained attacks on the minister reflected an inability to move beyond political antagonism.

Rather than undertake meaningful political introspection, rebuild its battered credibility and articulate constructive policy alternatives, Ambassador Sinare suggested that the NPP had made Ablakwa the centrepiece of its political agenda.

His comments come amid heightened political tensions following the NPP’s announcement of a demonstration dubbed “Yɛgye Yɛ Sika,” scheduled for November 3, 2026.

The opposition party intends to use the protest to demand accountability over controversies surrounding Ghana’s evacuation exercise in South Africa and the issuance of diplomatic and service passports.

The issues have generated intense political debate, with the NPP demanding greater transparency and investigations into the matters.

The allegations remain contested and should not be treated as established findings of wrongdoing.

Ambassador Said Sinare, however, maintained that the opposition’s approach raises questions about its ability to reposition itself as a credible political alternative.

“If this is their grand strategy for political redemption, then Ghana’s democracy deserves a more formidable opposition than this assemblage of political opportunists,” he stated.

He concluded with a pointed assessment of the NPP’s political strategy, arguing that sustained attacks on an individual would not automatically restore the party’s credibility or electoral appeal.

“You cannot resurrect a dying political brand by obsessively attacking a man whose relevance you cannot diminish,” Ambassador Sinare declared.

The ambassador’s remarks add to the increasingly heated political exchanges between the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the opposition NPP as the controversy surrounding Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa continues to feature prominently in Ghana’s political discourse.
