Shaibu Abdulai Dauda, alias Vanda, the incumbent Treasurer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Ellembelle Constituency of the Western Region, has been elected as the new Chairman, defeating the sitting Chairman, Alex Kwame Mahama.
Dauda polled 848 votes, representing 61.8 per cent of the valid votes cast, to win the chairmanship.
He defeated four other contenders: Festus Armoh Asilijo Nweamah, who polled 177 votes (12.9 per cent) to place second; Alex Kwame Mahama, who secured 127 votes (9.3 per cent) to place third; Justice Kofi Ackerson, who received 113 votes (8.2 per cent); and Enoch Blay Hemans, who polled 107 votes (7.8 per cent).
The constituency executive elections were held on Saturday, October 24, 2026, at the Awulae Amihere Kpanyinli Memorial Park in Ampain. The exercise was supervised by the Returning Officer, Pearl F. Klutse.
According to the official declaration, 1,372 valid votes were cast, representing 99.56 per cent of the total votes, while six ballots (0.44 per cent) were rejected. The total number of votes cast was 1,378.
The exercise was peaceful, with delegates, candidates and their supporters conducting themselves in an orderly manner.
A total of 62 candidates contested various positions, with two, the Women's Organiser and Communications Officer, going unopposed.
Speaking to GhanaWeb's Western Regional Correspondent after the results were declared, Dauda expressed profound gratitude to the delegates for the confidence they had reposed in him.
He described his victory as a collective achievement for the party.
"Nobody has lost, all of us under the NDC umbrella have won, so let us work harder to retain the seat in 2028," he stated.
"I am humbled by this massive endorsement. This is not a victory for Shaibu Dauda alone, but for the entire NDC family in Ellembelle. I will be a Chairman for all," he added.
Dauda commended his contenders, particularly the outgoing chairman, for their democratic spirit and called for unity ahead of the 2028 general elections.
He further assured party members that he would embark on a thank-you tour across the constituency to energise the party's grassroots base.
He stressed that the party's main objective was to retain the Ellembelle parliamentary seat and increase its presidential votes in the 2028 general elections.
Meanwhile, the outgoing Constituency Chairman, Alex Kwame Mahama, thanked the party's rank and file for giving him the opportunity to serve for eight years and pledged to remain a committed member of the Ellembelle NDC.
