The Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Emmanuel Nii Ashie-Moore, has strongly denied reports suggesting that the Attorney-General’s Department has recommended his prosecution over allegations involving the personal belongings of a Singaporean businessman.

According to a JoyNews report on October 23, 2026, in a statement, the NDC regional chairman challenged the accuracy of the reports, describing them as misleading and an attempt to undermine his reputation ahead of the party’s upcoming internal elections.

Ashie-Moore accused JoyNews, which published the report, of circulating claims that could negatively affect his political standing and public image.

According to him, the publication fails to accurately represent the circumstances surrounding the matter and raises concerns about responsible journalism.

“I categorically reject the report published by JoyNews alleging that the Attorney-General’s Department has recommended my prosecution. I maintain that the report is inaccurate, misleading and calculated to tarnish my hard-earned reputation as the Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), particularly ahead of the forthcoming internal party elections,” he stated.

His denial comes after reports emerged that the Attorney-General’s Department had advised investigators to pursue a stealing charge against him under Section 124 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).

The reported legal advice was said to have been based on an investigative docket containing witness accounts, CCTV recordings obtained from Fiesta Residences and findings from a cybercrime analysis report.

However, the reported recommendation does not establish guilt, as any criminal charge would have to go through the appropriate judicial process before a determination could be made.

The controversy stems from allegations that Ashie-Moore took possession of luggage and other personal effects belonging to Singaporean businessman Toh You Kang while the latter was being held in police custody.

The allegations form part of a broader dispute between the two individuals, which also involves claims surrounding an alleged US$800,000 payment purportedly made to facilitate the acquisition of contracts with the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).

Ashie-Moore has consistently rejected claims that he received the money and has denied wrongdoing in connection with the dispute.

In his latest response, the NDC chairman urged JoyNews to exercise greater caution in its reporting, particularly when publishing allegations capable of damaging an individual's reputation.

“I call on JoyNews to uphold the highest standards of responsible journalism by thoroughly verifying its claims, correcting any inaccuracies and ensuring that its platform is not used to unfairly damage reputations,” he said.

Despite his rejection of the publication, Ashie-Moore's statement did not specifically address the evidence reportedly contained in the investigative docket or present documentation challenging the alleged recommendation from the Attorney-General’s Department.

The development comes at a politically sensitive period as the NDC prepares for its internal elections, with Ashie-Moore maintaining that the publication is intended to cast him in a negative light.
