The National Democratic Congress (NDC) National Youth Organiser race is currently heating up, with two major camps allegedly pushing for their preferred candidate to succeed the current Minister of Youth Development and Empowerment, Lawyer George Opare-Addo
The party believes a strong youth wing will help it retain its position after the 2028 elections, underscoring the need for a strong individual to organise the party’s youth to canvass for votes.
Just as the party experienced fracas in the previous contest between the Sammy Gyamfi camp and the George Opare Addo camp, a similar situation is expected this year, as both camps have presented their candidates.
Okine Mintah is believed to be from the current National Youth Organiser’s camp and has his people’s backing.
He focuses on building a correspondence desk for youth feedback, engaging campus structures like TEIN, and fighting for economic and political opportunities for party youth who worked toward electoral victories.
Okine Mintah, a known face in the National Democratic Congress, has declared his intention and has since engaged several stakeholders to announce his bid for the position.
His campaign has taken him to several offices, regions, and quarters, making him visible to the party’s rank and file.
Okine Mintah brings organisational skills, human relations, and business acumen to the position.
From the other camp, Upper West Regional Youth Organiser of Ghana’s governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), Basiera Saankara, has declared his intention to contest the party’s National Youth Organiser position.
Basiera Saankara is running on his experience in various positions within the party.
However, he is not a well-known figure within the National party, and many believe that although he has strong support, especially in his region, he has not built a national profile, which will challenge his candidature.
Steven Nhyira Odarteifio is also in the contest but is not known to be affiliated with any of the party’s camps.
He has been engaging party folks and is optimistic of winning the position.
Steven Nhyira Odarteifio’s campaign is centred on “Economic Mobilisation.” He advocates leadership based on ideas rather than wealth or connections, aiming to turn the youth wing into a direct vehicle for job creation and income opportunities.
Nhyira believes his ideas will put money in the pockets of Ghanaian youth and win the NDC votes in the 2028 elections.
