Former Awutu Senya East Member of Parliament, Mavis Hawa Koomson, has taken a swipe at her successor, Phyllis Naa Koryoo Okunnor, claiming that the current MP cannot deliver on her mandate.

Speaking on Asaase FM on August 26, 2026, Hawa Koomson said that Naa Koryoo has failed to match the standard she set during her time as MP, despite the National Democratic Congress being in government.

“Koryoo cannot do the job. There is no day she can deliver on her mandate,” she said.

The former MP questioned her successor’s developmental record, saying she had not seen any major intervention by Naa Koryoo since she took office.

She further claimed that Naa Koryoo had also failed to undertake philanthropic activities in the constituency, alleging that she had not even provided a single piece of cloth to widows despite being in office for almost two years.

“Her party is in power but hasn’t done anything. Since she assumed office as MP, I haven’t even heard anyone say she has provided even a yard of cloth to widows in the constituency before,” she added.

Hawa Koomson said she was able to carry out several projects in the constituency even when her party was in opposition.

She cited the purchase of an ambulance for Kasoa within her first 100 days as MP as one of her achievements.

“Under my tenure as MP, when my party was in opposition, I purchased an ambulance for Kasoa in my first 100 days, and that was their first time of having one,” she revealed.

She also said that before the 2016 elections, she had constructed and furnished an education office in Kasoa and supported students, widows and mothers in the constituency.

“Before the 2016 elections, I had even constructed a fully furnished education office in Kasoa, including school desks. I paid fees, helped widows and mothers, and made sure to provide them with cloth every year before my party came to power in 2017,” she noted.

Hawa Koomson explained that she did not rely only on government funds to undertake development projects.

According to her, she built relationships with individuals who supported her work with money, building materials, and other resources.

“People thought the developmental work I did in the constituency was government funds, but no, I had people who sponsored me, and when I call on them, they always come to help. I was able to construct a storey building in the constituency due to their sponsorships of building materials and other things,” she explained.

“I felt that I shouldn't solely rely on the government in terms of development, so I partnered with individuals who had the ability and resources to help. I empowered the Kasoa market women by giving them capital for their businesses,” she added.

The former MP insisted that the record she left behind would be difficult for her successor to surpass.

“For the standard I have set in Kasoa, it will be difficult for anyone to break that. The shoes I left behind were huge so it will be difficult for anyone to fill them,” she said.

Hawa Koomson also spoke about her relationship with Naa Koryoo outside politics, saying she would not describe it as a good one.

“I will not say I have a good relationship with her because she thinks she knows better than I do. She doesn’t know that she can take lessons from my achievements, and maybe that is why she is struggling,” she concluded.
