Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, the former Assin Central MP whose fiery criticisms of the party’s leadership set off this entire process, has declined to appear before the committee tasked with investigating petitions against him, leaving party elders waiting and the process at a standstill.

Reports say the former presidential aspirant has instructed his office not to receive any correspondence from the party “at all” and has “vowed never to sit before the committee”. His camp is yet to deny the allegations.

Agyapong had previously walked into the party headquarters in a convoy of vehicles to appear before the same committee over his infamous “showdown” comments and left after accepting a caution.

However, this time, there will be no convoys, and he may not appear before the committee at all, some party members believe.

The committee, chaired by former Roads Minister Kwasi Amoako-Atta, was handed the matter on June 25 after the National Executive Committee and National Council received 11 petitions against Agyapong, including several from the party’s diaspora branches.

It was given two weeks to investigate and report. Those two weeks have long passed. Four invitations have been issued, and all four have been ignored.

Some party members are questioning, “What happens when a party’s most outspoken voice refuses to speak where it matters most?”

That answer now rests with the National Council, which must decide what to do in the coming days if Kennedy Ohene Agyapong continues to refuse to appear before the committee.
