New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary Candidate for Dome-Kwabenya, Mike Oquaye Jnr, has described as possible “mischief” flyers suggesting that former MP Sarah Adwoa Safo could return to contest the constituency in the 2028 elections.

Speaking on TV3 on Saturday, August 22, 2026, Mike Oquaye Jnr said he had seen the flyers but was waiting for Sarah Adwoa Safo herself to clarify whether she intends to return to the race.

“We saw certain flyers flying around, so we are observing. But most importantly, what I have heard is her saying that she was not going to run again and that she had other higher ambitions,” he said.

He noted that Sarah Adwoa Safo had served the constituency for three terms and was the longest-serving MP in the history of Dome-Kwabenya.

According to him, her record of service may have prompted some people to suggest that she could contest again, even though she has not personally announced such a decision.

“I think if you look at the history of Dome-Kwabenya, she's in effect the longest-serving MP. So there may be some people who would, I would say, mischief makers, who may also want to come up with that kind of suggestion,” he stated.

He stressed that the decision ultimately rests with Sarah Adwoa Safo, adding that three terms in Parliament should be enough.

“But that's her decision, because three terms is enough, and most people would not have expected that there will be, you know, a post that she's coming,” he said.

Mike Oquaye Jnr also dismissed concerns that a possible return by the former MP could affect his chances, saying the NPP had already demonstrated its ability to win the seat.

“What we have done before, we can do again. So there's no problem at all with regard to that. But other than that, Dome-Kwabenya is fine and NPP is going well,” he stressed.

He further suggested that the NPP could consider a consensus arrangement instead of a competitive parliamentary election if there is agreement among potential candidates.

“In fact, who knows, we may even be able to deepen democracy by not necessarily even having an election, but maybe having a consensus, like they do in other constituencies, and even maybe have one candidate. So we'll see how it goes,” he added.

The rumours of Sarah Adwoa Sarfo returning to contest for the Dome Kwabenya seat are just 'mischief makers who are trying to play mischief', as we have not heard from Adwoa Sarfo on her intentions.
