Paul Yandoh, former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Ashanti Regional Communications Officer, has recounted how he quietly left the party's regional election venue after realising that his bid for the Regional Secretary position was heading for defeat.

According to Paul Yandoh, he became concerned about the embarrassment of staying at the venue as the results turned against him, so he began looking for an opportunity to leave before the final results were announced.

Speaking on Asempa FM on August 20, 2026, he explained that the heavy presence of police officers around the election centre made it difficult for candidates and supporters to leave once the vote counting had started.

"When they started counting, and I realised it wasn't going well, I was looking for a way to sneak out. The police were also surrounding there; if you are not fast, they won't allow you to leave the centre, meaning the embarrassment will catch you there," he said.

The former Ashanti Regional Communications Officer said he eventually devised an excuse to leave the venue, telling people he was heading to the washroom. Instead, he made his way back to his office, where he followed the rest of the election proceedings.

"So God was able to help me sneak out. Some were asking me where I was going, and I told them I was going to the washroom and would be back. So I went back to the office and got updates later," he said.

He further spoke about the tense atmosphere at the election grounds, revealing that the Jama group he had brought to support his campaign complained about being hungry while he was also dealing with the emotional impact of the unfolding results.

"Whilst we were at the ground, the Jama boys I brought told me they were hungry. Me, I was hot. Later, Boris B Farms brought me 12 chickens because he heard me talking about food," he said.

Although he lost the election, Paul Yandoh said he has accepted the outcome and is prepared to work with the newly elected regional executives to strengthen the party.

"I respect the decision of the delegates and will support the elected executives, and we will all help them to collectively bring the party back to power," he said.

Paul Yandoh, however, took issue with Ashanti Regional Minister Dr Frank Amoakohene, a member of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), over his social media posts mocking him after the election.

He argued that Dr Amoakohene should have given him some time to recover emotionally from the loss instead of immediately making fun of his defeat.

"You see Amoakohene teasing me about my loss. He should at least have waited for me to heal, but the same day he was trolling me," he said.

The former NPP regional communications officer also warned the minister that he would not spare him if he ever suffered an electoral defeat.

"He should pray that nothing happens to him. He will leave the region. What he is doing on social media, like I am the only one who lost; I wasn't the only one. Why is he laughing at only me? I will troll him more than what he is doing to me now if he loses an election," he added.

Paul Yandoh finished third in the NPP Ashanti Regional Secretary race after securing 105 votes. Francis Adomako emerged victorious with 492 votes, while Michael Amoah Awuku placed second with 331 votes.
