Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has stated that, unlike the National Democratic Congress (NDC), which is able to bring its members into line, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) often struggles to achieve the same level of cohesion.

According to him, this is one of the key differences between the two political parties.

The Minority Leader made the remarks in an interview on Accra-based AsaasePa Radio.

He said he had taken note of the internal challenges within the NDC, particularly in Parliament. However, he observed that when the NDC leadership whips its members, they are able to put their differences aside and work together to achieve a common objective.

He said the same could not be said about the NPP, even within Parliament.

“What makes the NDC different and look more organised than us is that they are able to come together easily. They are able to get collective easily. You may see them having problems… Even in Parliament, I see them having problems among them in the Majority, but when they are whipped, they all come together as if there is no problem. If it were the NPP, they would let everyone know that there is a problem. They won’t even come into line when they are whipped,” he said.

He continued: “That is our weakness, and so we need to work on these so that the individual talents that we have will have that collective power to have an impact, and that impact is what will bring us to power.”
