An aspiring New Patriotic Party (NPP) General Secretary, Sylvester Tetteh, has stated that the party does not need to rely on facts while in opposition, but rather focus on propaganda.

In a video shared on X and sighted by GhanaWeb on August 11, 2026, Tetteh claimed that the ruling government is instilling fear in NPP members, particularly communicators and social media activists.

He said that under such circumstances, the party’s strategy should be propaganda rather than fact‑based counter-arguments.

According to him, the government’s approach has created an environment where opposition voices are suppressed, making it necessary for the NPP to adopt a more aggressive communication style to match the ruling party’s tactics.

"The NDC is putting fear in our men. They are arresting TikTokers, social media people, communicators. The things our communicators are saying. If you are a chamber secretary, week after week, you must set the agenda for the NDC to come and defend. We are in opposition. We don't need facts. We need to propagate," he said.

He continued: "One and a half years in opposition, the party is in Parliament but there's no problem in the house of records. As someone said, it is not a place of records. It is a place of propaganda; so, if you speak as an opposition chamber secretary, national security must meet."

The former Member of Parliament for Bortianor-Ngleshie Amanfro made the comments while discussing what he believes should be expected of a General Secretary during the party’s time in opposition.

Tetteh, who previously served as Chief Executive Officer of the National Youth Authority, is campaigning for the NPP’s General Secretary position ahead of the party’s national executive elections.

He has repeatedly described the current period as requiring strong, vocal leadership capable of mobilising the grassroots and projecting a forceful message across the country in preparation for the 2028 general elections.

Meanwhile, his comments have drawn reactions online, with some X users describing the comments as unpatriotic.
