National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, has said he has no regrets over the party’s controversial parliamentary leadership reshuffle, insisting that the decision was necessary.

The reshuffle, announced ahead of the 2024 general election, saw Haruna Iddrisu replaced as Minority Leader by Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, while Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak was removed as Minority Chief Whip.

The move marked the first time an opposition party in Ghana had undertaken such a major overhaul of its parliamentary leadership.

Speaking on the backlash that followed the changes on JoyNews, monitored by GhanaWeb on August 4, 2026, Asiedu Nketiah said public disagreement does not change what he believes to be the truth.

“It doesn’t change the truth, whether some people accept it or not. The truth remains the truth,” he stated.

Asiedu Nketiah explained that he understood why some people were hurt by the changes but maintained that difficult decisions sometimes come with initial resistance.

“As I’ve said, a rose described by whatever adjectives will still smell sweet. So, I always want to stay on the side of truth. Once I say something and it is true, whether you accept it or not, that is it. I’m okay with that. I sleep and sleep well,” he stated.

He said the situation can be compared to a medical procedure, saying that while surgery may cause pain, it can still be necessary for healing.

“As a psychologist, if I take a decision and I know it will pain you, your initial reactions don't hurt me at all. I know that even as a doctor if I have to cut you open it will be paining you, so I should not be worried about the pains and your reaction to the pain if I know that that cut is necessary to heal you,” he said.

Asiedu Nketiah further noted that despite the controversy surrounding the reshuffle, his personal relationship with Haruna Iddrisu and Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak remained intact.

He said he was still in regular contact with both men, who now serve as Education Minister and Interior Minister respectively.

“I can show you my phone and you realise that even yesterday I had a conversation with Honourable Haruna. As for Muntaka, any day we talk,” Asiedu Nketiah added.
