National Democratic Congress (NDC) Constituency Secretary in Awutu Senya East, Michael Kese Oteng-Pabi, has warned that the suspension of the Constituency Chairman, Stephen Ofosu Agyare, could create serious tensions within the party.

According to him, the decision by the party’s Functional Executive Committee (FEC) came as a surprise because neither the chairman nor other constituency executives were aware of the petition that triggered the suspension.

In an interview with Channel One TV on July 22, 2026, Oteng-Pabi alleged that the move seeks to prevent Ofosu Agyare from taking part in the upcoming constituency executive elections, insisting that due process was not followed before the decision was taken.

He explained that he contacted regional executives to ascertain if any formal petition had been submitted to them and subsequently referred to the Council of Elders, but according to him, he did not receive any clear answers.

“From all indication that is what it is looking like. Because as I said, no proper due process was followed. I've been in contact with regional executives asking them, if any formal petition brought was brought to them that was referred to the Council of Elders or Council of Elders on their own volition can go after people. I don't even understand.

"So, from all indication, from how the processes has been, it is clearly looking like this, the constituency executive election that is coming in just two months. Somebody does not want somebody to contest. That is how it is looking like", he stated.

Oteng-Pabi warned that party supporters are unhappy over the development.

“...If I should send you audios and write-ups on our various platforms, you will marvel. This is going to bring a storm. This is going to bring a storm", he noted.

Oteng-Pabi urged the national executives who approved the suspension to consider the possible impact of their decision on the party’s unity.

“I pray the national executives who took this decision truly understand the implications of what they have just done. They will very soon understand the true implications of what they have just done,” he added.

Oteng-Pabi wondered why the FEC didn't conduct its own investigations before suspending the chairman.

“I would think that even FEC could have come down, send some people to do their own investigations. The evidence that is before you or some petition that is before you that is based on that, probably they should have come down, speak to people on the ground, get to know their political environment or the nature of their politics before they take some of these decisions,” he added.

Oteng-Pabi, however, maintained that the suspension could create divisions within the constituency if not handled carefully.

Ofosu Agyare has been suspended for five months following a petition filed by the Awutu Senya East Member of Parliament, Phillis Naa Koryoo Okunor, and recommendations from the Central Regional Council of Elders.

In a letter dated July 22, 2026, the party’s headquarters said the FEC, at its meeting on July 21, 2026, found sufficient grounds to invoke Articles 48(4) and 48(6) of the NDC Constitution.

The suspended chairman has since been referred to the National Disciplinary Committee for further investigation and has been directed not to perform any official duties during the suspension period.
