New Patriotic Party (NPP) communicator and spokesperson for former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, has alleged that his successor at the Inter-Ministerial Coordinating Committee on Decentralisation (IMCCoD) informed someone to tell him that the government was plotting against him.

According to Aboagye, Gameli Hoedoafia, the current Executive Secretary of IMCCoD, initially asked a mutual friend to advise him to stop criticising the government because he had allegedly been instructed to find fault with Aboagye's tenure as Executive Secretary of the committee.

Speaking on Asempa FM's Ekosii Sen on July 21, 2026, Aboagye said he declined the request to remain silent, insisting that speaking on behalf of the NPP and Dr Bawumia was part of his role.

"When the IMCC Executive Secretary came into office, within the first three months, he told a mutual friend to call me and tell me that the government was putting pressure on him to find something against me, so I should keep quiet about criticising the government.

"Later, there was a face-to-face meeting involving myself, him and the mutual friend, where he repeated the same thing. I told him that I speak for the former Vice President and I speak for the NPP, so asking me to keep quiet was like asking me not to exist. That was simply not possible," he added.

He claimed that, following his refusal, he began receiving a series of official letters, culminating in a petition by the Executive Secretary of IMCCoD requesting investigations into his tenure over alleged wrongdoing.

"After that, I received a message from him indicating that an audit had been conducted and that I had to respond. I received the draft audit report and submitted my response accordingly.

"A second draft was later issued, raising three issues. We requested a meeting with the auditors to discuss the concerns.

"Subsequently, I was informed that I had to make a refund after they concluded that the committee had incurred some financial losses."

The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has stated that Aboagye's arrest at the Kotoka International Airport recently was linked to alleged financial and procurement-related irregularities involving approximately GH¢55 million during his tenure at IMCCoD.
