Samuel Koku Anyidoho, former Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and former spokesperson to President John Evans Atta Mills, has aligned himself with the current leadership of the party in opposing what he described as any third-term agenda allegedly being pursued by some individuals close to President John Dramani Mahama.

In a post shared on his X page on Sunday, July 12, 2026, the outspoken politician stated that the NDC would not become a “vehicle for carrying the obnoxious ambition of any individual on a selfish journey of destroying Ghana’s fledgling democracy.”

According to Anyidoho, President Mahama has made it “emphatically clear” that he will not contest the 2028 presidential election.

He added that the National Chairman of the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, and the party’s General Secretary, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, have also publicly stated on several occasions that the party would not tolerate what he described as a “greedy bastard” attitude.

He argued that there was no way anyone could use the NDC to pursue what he considers a destructive political agenda.

In his post, Anyidoho further stated that even if the Supreme Court were to interpret Article 66(2) of the 1992 Constitution in a way that permits a person who has served two non-consecutive terms as President to contest again, the NDC would not endorse such a move.

According to him, the party would not sell nomination forms to anyone seeking to rely on such an interpretation to extend their stay in power.

Making his point, Anyidoho wrote: “…if the person likes, he/she can go form his/her own political party or contest as an Independent candidate and see if he/she will get even 1% of the votes.”

The Founder and CEO of the MILLS (Mindset, Integrity, Loyalty, Leadership, Service) Institute for Public Policy Advocacy and Transformational Leadership Development maintained that “the NDC is a conscientious political party” and would not support any agenda that seeks to undermine the democratic principles it helped establish under the 1992 Constitution.

Anyidoho's comments come amid ongoing public debate over a suit before the Supreme Court seeking an interpretation of Article 66(2) of the Constitution regarding presidential term limits.
