Former Chief Executive Officer of the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA), Henry Kwabena Kokofu, has criticised Greater Accra Regional Minister, Linda Ocloo, following the recent floods that devastated parts of the capital.

According to Kokofu, the minister had recently received an award for her supposed achievements in addressing challenges in the region, including flooding.

However, he noted that it is ironic that massive flooding occurred shortly after the award was presented to her.

Speaking on Peace FM’s Kokrokoo on July 6, 2026, Kokofu remarked, “The regional minister was lucky; she received an award and after that, the floods came. So, if she did a good job, that was her reward for it.”

He further stressed that Ghana’s major challenges in tackling floods are rooted in engineering deficiencies, poor attitudes and weak leadership.

On Monday, June 29, 2026, heavy rainfall claimed at least 34 lives and destroyed several properties across Accra.

Meanwhile, President John Dramani Mahama has announced a GH¢300 million post-flood relief package for victims after conducting an aerial inspection of the affected areas.

It may be recalled that Linda Ocloo was honoured as Best Regional Minister at the 6th Ghana Ministers of State Excellence Awards, held on Saturday, June 6, 2026, at the Labadi Beach Hotel.

The ceremony brought together government officials, traditional leaders and stakeholders to celebrate excellence in public service delivery.

Organizers stated that the awards aim to highlight leadership impact and encourage higher standards in public office.
