Ghanaian journalist and aspiring communications director for the New Patriotic Party has outlined plans to centralise and professionalise the party’s messaging, including introducing structured speaking notes, training programmes and a coordinated media strategy.
Gordon Asare-Bediako said he intends to build a “well-disciplined, structured communication directorate” that would ensure uniform messaging across party communicators and affiliated media platforms.
Speaking on AsaasePa 107.3 FM’s “Atumpan” programme, he said communicators would be provided with speaking notes to guide public engagement and strengthen arguments during media appearances.
“All communicators will have speaking notes to aid in their delivery and make fierce arguments during in-studio discussions,” he said.
Common messaging framework
He added that pro-party media outlets would be aligned with common messaging frameworks, while social media activists would also be “empowered” under his proposed structure.
Asare-Bediako, who said he has not formally served in the party’s communication structure but has supported it informally, argued that better human relations and coordination were critical to improving the party’s public image.
He said his goal would be to “win back the media” and restore what he described as the party’s agenda-setting influence in public discourse.
Third voices
He also criticised what he called ad hoc deployment of communicators, pledging to train at least 100 “top-notch communicators” to strengthen the party’s grassroots communication capacity.
“There is no proper deployment, and I seek to change this narrative,” he said.
He further proposed identifying “third voices,” including academics and independent commentators, to broaden the party’s communication reach.
The comments come as the NPP continues internal discussions on restructuring its communication strategy following its 2024 electoral defeat, with contenders positioning themselves for key leadership roles ahead of the next election cycle.
