Court restrains NPP from conducting Bunkpurugu polling station elections

Court stops NPP polling station elections in Bunkpurugu Court stops NPP polling station elections in Bunkpurugu

A High Court in Nalerigu has issued an interim injunction restraining the New Patriotic Party (NPP) from conducting polling station elections in the Bunkpurugu Constituency.

The order, granted on May 8, 2026, will remain in force for 10 days following an ex-parte motion filed by Konlan Yenuyia and 16 others against the party and a second defendant.

According to the court, the injunction was necessary to prevent the plaintiffs from suffering “irreparable, irreversible or irredeemable damage” and to ensure that any future judgment would not be rendered moot.

“The court restrains the defendants by themselves, their agents, assigns, privies or any other person who takes authority directly from the Defendants from conducting the polling station elections in the Bunkpurugu Constituency,” the ruling stated.

Presiding Judge Justice Samuel Bright Acquah said the applicants had demonstrated that they were members of the party in good standing and had the capacity to bring the application.

The court also noted that documents presented suggested possible breaches of the party’s internal rules and violations of natural justice.

It further held that allowing the elections to proceed could cause irreparable harm and render any future ruling meaningless.
