The General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Kodua Frimpong, has expressed satisfaction with the ongoing primaries, describing them as peaceful, orderly, and a reflection of the party’s strong democratic culture.
Speaking to the media on Saturday, January 31, 2026, he emphasised that internal elections are a core part of the party’s democratic tradition.
“We understand that internal contest is part and parcel of our party's fabric, and that is what we are witnessing today. So far, the reports I’ve received from across the country indicate that everything is going on smoothly,” he noted.
He also commended the Electoral Commission and the Ghana Police Service for their role in ensuring a calm and orderly process.

“They have conducted themselves very well and are managing the processes peacefully, which is exactly what we expect,” Frimpong added.
The General Secretary praised delegates for following proper procedures and demonstrating respect for the voting process.
“The delegates across the country understand that they have to follow certain processes before they get to the ballot space. And it is good. I’m proud to be the General Secretary of this party and a member of the New Patriotic Party because of how we uphold internal democracy,” he said.

Looking ahead to the declaration of results, Frimpong emphasized that the party itself is the ultimate winner.
“When the Electoral Commission declares the results, the winner will be the New Patriotic Party. We will no longer have camp A, camp B, or camp C. We will have one united New Patriotic Party,” he stated.
Over 211,000 delegates will cast their votes at more than 300 polling centres across the country.
Five candidates are contesting the NPP flagbearer race: former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, former Food and Agriculture Minister Dr Bryan Acheampong, former Education Minister Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, former NPP General Secretary Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, and former Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong.
