There Can Not Be Victory In Disunity-Aliu Mahama

Former Vice president of Ghana His Excellency Alhaji Aliu Mahama has called on supporters and members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to unite and start working towards victory in election 2012; “Saying without sincere unity there can not be victory for the NPP even though the National Democratic Congress (NDC) was obviously not living up to expectation in the face of its numerous failed pre-election promises”

Alhaji Aliu Mahama was speaking during a visit to the chiefs and people of Gushiegu in the Northern region of Ghana in what he said was: “renewal and consolidation of friendship and brotherhood visits”

The former vice-president who was given a rousing welcome in Gusheigu also used the occasion to call on Dagombas in particular and Northerners at large to love one another, eschew violence in any form and shape and to rather unite to fight poverty for both their personal and general development.

Alhaji Aliu Mahama also bemoaned the situation were parents failed to take care of the educational needs of their children- even though they have lots of cattle, sheep and other animals that they could sell to educate the children.
He reminded the people of Gushiegu that: The late Naa Bawa Yakubu of Gushiegu- became the first Northerner to become Inspector General of Police in Ghana because, his parents educated him -to buttress the need for the people to be serious with the education of their children. “Sell the animals to educate the children he charged”

The former vice president also lamented what he called: “the culture of lies” in Dagbon and added that; lies and related untruths can never do Dagbon and Dagombas any good and therefore urged the people to always tell the truth no matter what in all situations.

Alhaji Aliu Mahama also catalogued some key developmental projects that the NPP under took while in government and mentioned the Gushiegu hospital the creation of the Karaga district from among other things saying: “Now that you have had the opportunity to shop from the market of the past NPP administration and the current Atta Mills led NDC government you will be in good position to make informed choices in election 2012.

The former vice president was accompanied on his tour by the First National Vice Chairman of the NPP Sheikh T.B. Damba and some Northern regional executives of the NPP including Alhaji Rufai Yahaya Iddi- First Vice regional chairman, Mba Jato Second regional vice chairman, Alhaji Abdallah Hindu-regional organizer of the NPP, Alhaji Adam Caridam-regional treasurer and Hajia Amama Sayibu-regional Women organizer of the NPP. It must be added that, other key activists of the party from across the country were part of the entourage of the former vice president.
