Former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has visited former Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture Development, Mavis Hawa Koomson, following her assault encounter during the Ablekuma North parliamentary election rerun held on Friday, July 11, 2025.

The update was shared on X by the Bawumia Campaign Team on Sunday, July 13, 2025, with the caption, “Dr Bawumia visits Hawa Koomson at home to check on her.”

Hawa Koomson was brutally assaulted at the St Peter’s Society Methodist Church polling station at Odorkor.

According to eyewitnesses, the assailants overpowered the security detail and physically attacked a number of political figures, including Hawa Koomson, who was forced to the ground and reportedly stomped in the chest and groin before officers stepped in to rescue her.

The incident occurred amid heightened tensions in a constituency gripped by legal battles and political uncertainty since the December 2024 general elections.

The rerun ultimately saw Ewurabena Aubynn of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) declared winner, polling 34,090 votes to edge past the New Patriotic Party (NPP)’s Nana Akua Owusu Afriyie, who garnered 33,881 votes.
