Eight filed to contest Effutu and Awutu-Senya seats

Winneba (C/R), Oct. 21, GNA - Eight persons from four political parties and an independent candidate, have filed their nominations to contest the December 7, 2008 parliamentary election for the Effutu and Awutu-Senya constituencies in the Central Region. Mr Anthony Oppong, District Electoral Officer, in charge of the two constituencies, told the Ghana News Agency in Winneba on Monday that five of the candidates were contesting for the Awutu-Senya seat while the other three were for the Effutu seat. He said Mr Samuel Owusu-Agyei, Minister for Public Sector Reforms and currently Member of Parliament (MP) for Effutu, who was seeking for re-election under the ticket of New Patriot Party (NPP) had also filed. Others who filed the Effutu seat were, Mr Mike Allan Hammah for the New Democratic Congress (NDC) and Mr Henry Kweku Bortsie, CPP. According to Mr Oppong, Mr Oppey Abbey, NPP, David Nana Larbi, a legal practitioner for the NDC, Reverend Kofi Akotuah-Obeng, Democratic Freedom Party, Mr Richard Paa Tawiah, CPP and Mr. Haroun Tetteh Mensah, an independent candidate have filed to contest the Awutu-Senya constituency.

Mr Oppong urged the various candidates to conduct their campaigns in accordance with electoral law to help ensure peaceful fair, free and transparent elections. He also appealed to electorates in the two constituencies, especially the youth not to involve themselves in any act that could create confusion before, during and after the election.
