PNC elects parliamentary candidate for Jirapa

Jirapa, Aug. 7, GNA - The People's National Convention (PNC) has elected Miss Jane Francis-Galyuoni as its parliamentary candidate for Jirapa Constituency to contest the December 7 polls. At the constituency' primary held at Jirapa on Wednesday, Miss Francis-Galyuoni, 28 and a Secretary at the Ghana Education Service (GES) polled 17 votes out of the 21 votes cast to beat Mr Abu Attah, a teacher who polled four votes.

Miss Francis-Galyuoni thanked the delegates for electing her and called for co-operation and hard work among the party executives and supporters to win the seat for the PNC.

She gave the assurance that she would work with women groups in the constituency to win the seat for the PNC. Dr Gilbert Dabuori Bainge, Upper West Regional Chairman of the PNC told the delegates that this year's election was not for the political party or a politician who has money but for the party whose presidential candidate who has the best ideas to lead the country to prosperity and progress. He said the PNC has the best materials in the country to lead the country to prosperity and called on the electorate to vote massively for the PNC in the December polls.

He said a PNC administration would modernise agriculture through the provision of small-scale dams for farmers to produce all-year-round to enhance their livelihoods.

The PNC would also establish a Sheanut Marketing Board to give attention to the production of the crop as done to cocoa.

Dr. Bainge regretted that since the colonial era, no government had promoted a cash crop for the North, even though the North has the potentials for rice, cotton and cashew production. On minor registration in the ongoing voters registration exercise, Dr Bainge appealed to Ghanaians to be honest and declare their correct ages to help the Electoral Commission to produce a credible voters' register for the country.

"I expect people who go to register to be honest and declare their correct ages because honesty goes with peace," he said, adding; "Let us learn to be honest before, during and after the election."
