A DFP government would undertake Green Revolution

Kasoa (C/R), June 21, GNA - The patron of the Democratic Freedom Party (DFP), Dr. Yaw Obed Asamoah, has blamed the New Patriot Party (NPP) and National Democratic Congress Party (NDC) for not undertaking "Green Revolution" to build a vibrant economy to reduce poverty. He said high taxation coupled with over trade liberalization had made industries in the country to fold up, making most workers to lose their jobs.

Addressing a DFP at Kasoa on Friday, Dr. Asamoah said a government of the party would call for the implementation of a "Green Revolution" to produce more food and raw materials for local consumption and export.

He said since most Ghanaians are farmers there is the need to encourage them with the provision of inputs and financial assistance for them to go into large scale farming. Dr. Asamoah said special credit facilities would be made available to farmers to ensure all year round food production and also create adequate market for farmers.

The flag bearer of the party, Mr. Emmanuel Ansah Antwi, said the DFP had come to rescue Ghanaians from poverty and hardships. He said DFP is the party for the youth and that priority attention would be give to the free Compulsory Universal Basic Education (FCUBE) to ensure that every child is educated to the highest level. The Deputy General Secretary of the party, Mr. John Amekah, called on the media to be firm and fair in their reportage.

Mr. Osei Piecsie Anto, National Organizer of the party, called on politicians to preach peace, unity, love and understanding and that the old politics of insults and hatred must be avoided. Rev. Kofi Akofie-Obeng, 45, was introduced as the parliamentary candidate for the Awutu-Senya constituency of the party to contest in the December election.
