Appiah keen on Turkish delight

Ghanaian midfielder Stephen Appiah is desperate to achieve success with Turkey's Fenerbahce this season for the club's fans.

The Istanbul club is aiming to rewrite the history books on Wednesday when taking on city rivals Besiktas in the Turkish Cup final.

Fenerbahce have not won the cup since 1983 and are hoping to complete a league-and-cup double this season.

The country's most popular club are just two victories away from winning the league championship for the third year in succession.

"To bring history back to Fenerbahce is a great thing for me and my colleagues," Appiah told BBC Sport.

"I'm really hungry to achieve these things with the club and for the fans.

"They have shown me how great they are and I really want to pay them back with the double."

Besiktas' Egyptian midfielder Ahmed Hassan is likely to miss the tie because of a calf injury.
