Former student attempts to kill teacher

Buokrukruwa (B/A), Dec 17, GNA - Police at Duayaw-Nkwanta have placed in custody an 18-year-old dismissed student of Buokrukruwa Roman Catholic Junior Secondary School in the Tano District for attempting to kill a teacher.

It is alleged he suspected the teacher of causing his dismissal. Mr. Ben Bashiru, an English teacher of the school, told Ghana News Agency that the former student, Kofi Alhassan, came to the school to spy on the teacher, Mr. Paul Adu-Gyamfi, who was teaching and when questioned as to his mission he replied that he was there to see a friend.

Alhassan, who was armed with a knife, later went to hide in a thicket on a path that he knew Mr Adu-Gyamfi would pass on his way home. Another teacher, Mr. Eric Bio Addae, who was waiting for a vehicle by the roadside, saw Alhassan and Mr. Adu-Gyamfi about the intention of the accused.

The case was reported to Mr. Nelson Kwaku Nyamekye, chairman of the school's Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) who organized a group of people who grabbed Alhassan.
