The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has strongly criticised what it describes as sustained and vicious verbal attacks on former President John Agyekum Kufuor by Kevin Ekow Taylor and has demanded that the NDC acts decisively on the matter.

In a strongly worded press release issued on May 8, 2026, the NPP described the attacks as a desecration of a national icon and called on the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to rein in Taylor, who they claim has deep ties to the party.

“The New Patriotic Party (NPP) condemns, in the strongest possible terms, the sustained and vicious attacks by Kevin Ekow Taylor against His Excellency John Agyekum Kufuor, former President of the Republic of Ghana. This is not politics. This is desecration, " the statement partly read.

The NPP highlighted Kufuor’s legacy, noting his role in rescuing Ghana from economic collapse, strengthening democracy, and earning both local and international admiration.

“President Kufuor rescued this nation from economic collapse, strengthened our democracy, and earned the admiration of Ghana and the world. He is not a partisan target; he is the father of this nation,” the statement added.

The party expressed disappointment at the NDC’s silence on the development, describing it as being complicit in the matter.

“The NDC’s silence is not neutrality. It is complicity,” the release stated.

It added that Kevin Taylor’s close links to the NDC make it impossible for the party to claim innocence.

The NPP made two clear demands:

1. President Mahama and the NDC must immediately dissociate themselves from the attacks on the person and legacy of President Kufuor.

2. Kevin Taylor must issue a full, unqualified, and public apology to President Kufuor.

“There are lines that decency, culture, and conscience forbid us from crossing, and such behaviour is one of them. The NDC must decide whether it will stand with our shared cultural values or with the savagery of Kevin Taylor,” the statement said.

The release was signed by Richard Ahiagbah, Director of Communications of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
