Akatsi Taining College celebrates 40th anniversary

Akatsi, Dec 8, GNA - Akatsi Training College marked its 40th Anniversary with a durbar at Akatsi at the weekend with a call for help to rehabilitate its dilapidated structures.

Mr Jimmy Kpeglo, the Principal, said despite the college's position as one of the best training colleges in the country, it was beset with many problems such as the lack of accommodation for tutors and adequate dormitories for female students.

He said the college, which was established in 1963 with 42 students, now has 722 students and 41 tutors and over the years has won a reputation as a disciplined institution.

Mr Kpeglo said the college has undertaken self-help projects including poultry, sheep breeding and oil palm cultivation to augment resources from government.

He said the Training College has organised exchange programmes with similar institutions in the Netherlands and Denmark, which is improving academic performance among students of the college.

Mr Michael Nsowah, a Deputy Director-General of the Ghana Education Service, said the lowering of entry requirements for students into training colleges has affected standards in training colleges.
