Jaman South investigates alleged fuel shortage

Drobo (B/A), May 2, GNA - Mr Apraku Tanor, Jaman South District Chief Executive and executive members of the Drobo branch of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) have set up an investigative team to look into the sudden shortage of petroleum products in the District, as fresh petroleum price hike looms.

The situation was aggravated on Wednesday, April 26, when both commercial and private vehicular movements virtually came to a standstill, causing drivers and passengers to become stranded in almost all the lorry parks and roads leading to the various towns and villages in the District.

Many of the drivers and passengers Ghana News Agency (GNA) spoke to stated that the filling stations operators were hoarding the petroleum products, especially the diesel, in anticipation of new price increases. Mr Abu Ankamah, an Urvan bus driver complained he had to travel far away to Berekum to purchase fuel because anytime he went to a filling station with a view to buying fuel in any of the petrol filling stations in the Jaman South District, he was simply told it was finished. Nana Abu Kwasi Kuma, National Road Safety Instructor and Kyeremeh Djan, an executive committee members of the Jaman South District Assembly, two men appointed by the DCE to investigate the issue said after going on inspection on a number of fuel service stations, they realized that there was shortage of diesel but petrol was in abundance. fuel from other Districts.

It was reliably learnt that the vice-chairman of the GPRTU, Drobo Main Branch, had set up another committee to look into the matter to ascertain the facts while the district security council was closely monitoring the situation.
