CPP government will reactivate collapsed factories - Nduom

Adansi-Asokwa (Ash), Sept 15, GNA - The government of the Convention People's Party (CPP) will reactivate all the collapsed Ghana Industrial Holding Corporation (GIHOC) factories located in many parts of the country.

The factories, which were established under Dr Kwame Nkrumah's government, included the Komenda Sugar Factory, Tema Steel Works, Tema Paints Factory, Accra Metal Industries, Paper Conversion at Takoradi and Footwear Factory in Kumasi among others.

Dr Paa Kwesi Nduom, the Party's presidential candidate, announced this at Adansi-Asokwa in the Adansi North District, when the party by popular acclamation elected Mr Francis Owusu-Boamah, a businessman as its parliamentary candidate for the constituency.

Dr Nduom said the revival of these factories would provide jobs for the citizenry.

He pointed out that the pockets of most Ghanaians were empty because there were no jobs to enable them improve upon their incomes. "Many factories opened under Dr Nkrumah's regime have been left to collapse by past governments and I, "Adwumawura" will revive all of them to give jobs to the youth," he stressed.

Touching on education, the CPP flagbearer said, his administration would provide ideal school infrastructure facilities to promote quality education, adding "CPP government will make kindergarten to senior high school education compulsory".

Dr Nduom bemoaned the state of mining towns like Tarkwa and Obuasi and said his administration would offer critical attention to the development of those towns, which play positive roles in the economy of the country.

Mr S.K. Danso, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the Party, debunked the assertion that it was only the NPP and NDC that had massive followers, saying "it is December 7 elections that will determine the popular party in the country".

Mr Owusu-Boamah expressed appreciation to the Party and urged members of the constituency to vote for him, come the December general elections. 15 Sept. 08
