Only few registered voters in Birim South checked their names

Akyem Oda, July 24, GNA - Only 29,317 out of the 99,558 registered voters in Birim South District checked their names in the voters register during the just ended exhibition of the register nation-wide. Mr John Appiah Baffoe, Birim South District Electoral Officer told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the figure representing 29.4 per cent was below expectation.

He said the names of 773 deceased persons were removed from the register.

Mr Baffoe attributed the low turn out to apathy and called for concerted efforts from political parties to educate their activists and supporters on the need to take future exhibition of the voters register serious.
