2024 Elections: NPP's problem was low turnout - Kwame Prempeh

New Patriotic Party communicator, Ing Kwame A Prempeh, has stated that the NPP’s performance in the Ashanti Region in the 2024 elections was largely affected by voter apathy within the party’s support base.

Speaking on Joy Prime, as monitored by MyNewsGh, Prempeh argued that the NDC did not significantly increase its support in the region.

“NDC only increased their votes in the Ashanti Region by 43,000. So it is not a matter of our voters turning to the NDC. It is a matter of our voters not coming out to vote,” the NPP National Organiser aspirant said.

Prempeh explained that voter turnout in the region dropped from 83 per cent in 2020 to 65 per cent in 2024, while the NPP lost about 428,000 votes.

“That is what we are going to work on with me as National Organiser. It is something we are going to overcome,” he added.

He admitted the task ahead would be difficult but insisted there was enough time before the next elections to reorganise the party’s grassroots support.

“When it comes to politics, that is a long period,” he said while discussing the time left before the next elections.
