I’ll 'chew you like a dog' – NPP Chairman warns prospective Akufo-Addo contenders

Chairman of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Fomena Constituency, Akwasi Anti Asamoah has warned persons within the party who may be harbouring ambitions of contesting President Nana Akufo-Addo in the upcoming presidential primaries to abort same, MyNewsGh.com reports.

He says as “ as it stands now, there is nobody of good standing” in that party to contest the President with the view of becoming the NPP’s flagbearer for the 2020 elections; and even if there is, he would personally make sure the person is stopped by fair or foul means.

“I swear on my father’s grave, I will chew them like a dog; if anybody is a man within the party, let him declare his intention to contest Nana Addo; like I will chew him like a dog; I will go to his house, beat him and chew him like a dog”, Akwasi Anti fumed in an interview on Kumasi-based Angel FM, monitored by MyNewsGh.com.

The longest serving constituency chairman of the party in the Ashanti region and Chief of Staff to the Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, a.k.a Chairman Wontumi says any contest against the President from within the party would jeopardize the gains he has made, upon which his campaign for 2020 would be based.

President Akufo Addo has not declared his intention of contesting the 2020 election, but has given hints that he would by comments he has made on several fora that seeks projects his presidential ambition beyond 2020.

Saying he would elevate the Member of Parliament (MP) for the Kwabre East Constituency, Francisca Oteng Mensah when she is re-elected for Parliament and if he wins the poll in 2020 is a case in point.

The New Patriotic Party has however slated its Presidential and Parliamentary Primaries in 169 constituencies where it has sitting Members of Parliament for April 25, 2020.

The party has however warned that no aspirant is allowed to campaign until nominations are opened.

“Ahead of these primaries, the party is cautioning prospective aspirants to desist from all forms of campaign activity until nominations are duly opened else they risk being disqualified for flouting party directives”, General Secretary, John Boadu has said.
