School is important but not the ultimate - Gender Minister

Minister for Gender and Social Protection, Cynthia Morrison, has asked young women to think outside the academic box and make the most of their lives by exploring other skills which could help them gain extra income.

She advised them to widen and scan surroundings as there are plenty of opportunities as well as inner passions they could leverage on to make the first step.

Speaking at the maiden edition of the Obaasima Summit held on May 31 in Accra to empower, equip, and promote women to pursue their dreams, the Minister indicated that inasmuch as school system is key, it is equally vital that individuals champion other interests.

Madam Cynthia She said it is necessary to pursue one’s happiness, be good at it, fulfil with heart, and then contribute to society at large.

“If you’re determined to do something and you have the passion and flare go for it. You need to go to school, it is very important but it is not the ultimate. I want you to go to school but it is not only school that matters. It is what you do out of the school you have gone to. You can go to all the school in this world, you retire at 60 and what do you do? I was 23 when I started running a school. It doesn’t matter your age, it is your heart”. She added.

The Obaasima Summit saw some influential Ghanaian women from different sectors who shared their successes and failures with youthful ladies on the theme, “Empowered for Continuity.”



Some of the guest speakers included, Former Education Minister, Professor Jane Opoku Agymang, Joyce Bawah Motgari, Esther Cobbah and Petra Aba Asamoah.
