RE: UCC and WRI research findings indict Newmont Ahafo mine

The Management of CSIR-Water Research Institute has taken notice of a publication on Ghanaweb titled "UCC and WRI research findings indict Newmont Ahafo Mine", published on 28 th January, 2017.

The writer of the story, one Kwadwo Peprah, attributes his report to research findings by one Dr. Emmanuel Tenkorang, a Senior Lecturer at the University of Cape Coast and Mr. Samuel Obiri, a Senior Research Scientist at the CSIR Water Research Institute.

The Commission wishes to state that although Mr. Samuel Obiri is an employee of CSIR Water Research Institute, all activities, overtly or covertly, leading to the report and the subsequent publication on Ghanaweb by the said reporter are NOT commissioned or authorized works of CSIR- Water Research Institute.

Mr. Samuel Obiri thus acted singularly and independently, supposedly in his capacity as the Executive Director of Center for Environmental Impact Analysis (CEIA). We regret any loss, inconvenience or damage that the association of the name ofCSIR-WRI with the said report might have caused to Newmont Ghana Gold Ltd. - Ahafo Mine in particular and all other stakeholders in general.

We wish to reiterate that CSIR-Water Research Institute is NOT connected in anyway whatsoever to the report and its findings and recommendations and hence this disclaimer.
