Four more armed robbers arrested

Four more armed robbers have been arrested by the Greater Accra Regional Police Command as part of the recent clampdown on criminals.

They are Eric Lanteh Annan, 40, Gideon Apetoe, 21, and Mallam Abu, all on the police wanted list. The other is John Malm.

Mr Bright Oduro, Regional Crime Officer told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that he personally drove to Sogakope in the Volta Region to effect the arrest of Annan who residing there after realising that police was catching up with him.

He said following a tip-off he drove to Sogakope last Saturday where Annan was said to be operating a video centre.

Mr Oduro who is a Superintendent of Police said with the aid of the Sogakope Police Annan was arrested and whisked to Accra.

He said Annan operates with Sammy Tugah, Razak, Ray Ameen Ataa Ayi, Tony Yaw Owusu and Mallam Abu who have all been arrested.

He said upon interrogation Annan allegedly confessed that he and his gang were involved in a robbery on February 5, this year, where a woman was robbed of 65,000 dollars and 45 million cedis at Taifa.

Mr Oduro said Annan had also admitted to two other robberies at Lartebiokoshi and Mataheko where two traders were robbed of seven and five million cedis respectively in front of their houses after being trailed by the robbers.

In another development a notorious robber Apetoe has been arrested at Alajo following a tip-off.

Apetoe in his attempt to escape scaled over a wall and was grabbed when he tried to jump over another one.

Mr Oduro said Apetoe operates with Hope Ahongar and Ayittey both of whom are now deceased, Ibrahim Jibiri alias Chop Better and Cash, who are still on the run.

Apetoe was identified as the driver of the vehicle used in the murder operation of Mufu, an ex-convict who was gunned down at Flamingo near Russia by armed robbers, who suspected him to be a Police informant.

He said Apetoe also drove the car to the scene at Liquart at North Kaneshie where "Dr" Joe Quartey was killed during which his Mercedes Benz car was snatched on December 12, last year.

Mr Oduro described Apetoe as a driver of most criminal gangs in their operations in the metropolis.

He said Abu was also arrested on Sunday following a tip off at Kotobabi while Malm was also arrested at New Town.
