Ahmad Ahmad of Madagascar has beaten Issa Hayatou to become the new CAF president after Thursday’s election in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa.

Ahmad Ahmad polled 34 votes to beat long serving president Issa Hayatou, who polled 20 votes.

Hayatou has been CAF president for 29 years and was seeking his eighth term in office. In 2002, he ran for the FIFA presidency but was defeated by Sepp Blatter.
